Squarespace product CSV format for bulk edits

The columns of the Squarespace product CSV, how products and variants are laid out in rows, and the format rules for each value you can edit.

Updated

To edit many products at once, you export your products to a .csv file, edit the file in a spreadsheet, and import it to the same site. The import updates the existing products. This guide sums up the format that the Squarespace Help Center describes for that bulk edit.

Get the file

Open the Products & Services panel, click Products, then click Export all. The export holds your physical and service products, up to 10,000 of them. It uses the same format as the import file, with an extra column for the store page.

The export does not include additional product information, reviews, featured images, image alt text or variant images. Changes to the file do not sync to your site until you import it.

How rows are organized

Each product starts on its first product row. A product with no variants uses only that row, and its option cells are empty.

A product with variants has one row for each combination of options. The first of these rows is the first product row. The rows under it are option rows. Keep the option rows directly under their first product row.

Squarespace asks you to keep this structure, even when you change the values in the cells. Do not add rows above the header, and do not add or remove columns.

Columns you cannot change

In a bulk edit, these values come from your site and must stay as they are:

  • Product ID [Non Editable] and Variant ID [Non Editable]. Cell A1 must read Product ID [Non Editable], and cell A2 must contain a product ID.
  • Product Type [Non Editable]. Only physical and service products can be imported.
  • Product Page. Required. The store page URL slug, without the /. It must match a store page that exists on your site.
  • Hosted Image URLs. Changes here do not update your images.

Columns on the first product row only

Enter these values only on the first product row of each product: Product Page, Product URL, Title, Description, Categories, Tags, Visible and Hosted Image URLs. Leave them empty on option rows.

Format rules

  • Product URL: required. The product’s URL slug, without the /. Between 3 and 200 characters. Separate words with dashes, and use no spaces or special characters other than dashes. Capital letters become lowercase on your site.
  • Title: required. Up to 200 characters.
  • SKU: optional. Up to 60 characters. If it is empty, Squarespace makes one.
  • Option Name 1–3 and Option Value 1–3: each name and value pair makes a variant. Add a row for every combination of options. A product can have up to 250 variants.
  • Price and Sale Price: numbers and a decimal point only, with no currency symbol. Two decimal places at most. Example from the guide: enter 10.513 as 10.51. The sale price must be lower than the price. Products priced over 1,000,000 cannot be imported.
  • On Sale: Yes, No, or empty. Enter a sale price only when this is Yes.
  • Stock: the number in stock, or unlimited.
  • Categories (version 7.1): required. The URL slug of each category or subcategory page, including the /, in lowercase, separated by commas. Up to 25 characters each. Examples: /clothing, /clothing/blouses. They must match categories on your site.
  • Tags: separated by commas, up to 80 characters each.
  • Weight, Length, Width, Height: numbers up to 10,000 and a decimal point only.
  • Visible: required. Yes to show the product after the import, No to hide it.

Import the file

In the Products panel, click Import, then drop the file into the Upload Squarespace CSV box. To keep your current stock levels, clear Update product quantities. Review the results, correct any errors and import again, then click Save.

You can check the file against these rules in your browser with Catalog Fix before you import it.
