How to fix Squarespace product CSV import errors
What the Squarespace product import errors mean, such as Product page not found, Categories not assigned and Missing column, and how to fix the CSV.
Updated
When a product import fails or skips products, the cause is usually in the .csv file. This guide lists the error messages that the Squarespace Help Center explains, and the change to make in the file for each one.
Product page not found
The Product Page cell contains a store page URL slug that does not match a store page on your site.
To fix it, change the cell to the slug of an existing store page, or change the slug of the store page in Squarespace. Enter the slug without the /: shop, not /shop/. Enter it only on the first product row of each product.
Categories not assigned
The Categories cell names a category that does not exist on your store.
To fix it, add the category to your store and import the file again. In the file, enter the URL slug of the filtered category page, including the / and in lowercase, such as /clothing or /clothing/blouses. A category name such as Summer Sale is not a slug. Copy the slug from your store, because the slug can differ from the name.
Missing column. Add product ID column.
The Product ID column is missing, or there is an extra row above the header.
To fix it, make sure cell A1 reads Product ID [Non Editable] and cell A2 contains a product ID. Delete any title or note rows that a spreadsheet added above the header.
The import fails with no clear message
The guide gives these steps:
- Copy all the text in the .csv file, paste it into a new spreadsheet, and upload the new .csv. This resolves most problems.
- Open the file in a spreadsheet program and look for unsupported formatting: bulleted lists, hyperlinks and nonstandard characters.
- Check the separator. Some spreadsheet programs save a .csv with semicolons between values instead of commas. Change that setting, or save the file again with commas.
- Make sure you started from the correct file. For a bulk edit, that is the file from Export all.
Value problems that stop a row
These rules from the format table often cause a row to fail:
- A price with a currency symbol.
- A sale price that is not lower than the price.
- A product URL with spaces or special characters. Use dashes between words.
- A Visible cell that is not Yes or No.
- More than 250 variants in one product, or a price over 1,000,000.
- A download product. Only physical and service products can be imported.
The price field supports two decimal places only, so round each price to the nearest hundredth. For example, enter 10.513 as 10.51.
Check the file before you import
Catalog Fix runs these checks in your browser. It fixes the safe ones, such as a currency symbol in a price or a slash in the product page, and shows each change before you download. It lists the problems that need your decision, such as category names, and every store page and category that must exist on your site.
